AMERSFOORT, NETHERLANDS 1625
HOME OF WOLPHERT GERRITSE von COUWENHOVEN
This map from c. 1625 shows the location of the community of Amersfoort and the actual bowery (farm) of Wolphert Gerritse von Couwenhoven (red dot) to the north and slightly west of Amersfoort. Notice that the drawing of the village shows the outer wall for defense purposes, as well as the structure of the village pathways and homes. The image at the very top of this page is the actual bridge and moat, Koppelport, at Amersfoort. The village is over 3000 years old and evidence of ancient hunter gatherers can be found. Much information about the village can be found online. For more about our Dutch family ancestors click on this link and I will take you there. Bring a Belgian Ale to this session and let’s mix it up with the Dutch regarding what constitutes a good beer. To see where Amersfoort is located within Netherlands (Holland) see below.
